If you want to know whether a vehicle has compulsory motor third‑party liability insurance, you can easily check it with the Instacar app.
Simply enter the license plate number, and the app will show the vehicle’s details, including whether MTPL (KGFB) is present or missing.

You can log in to the Instacar app with your existing Apple, Google or Facebook account, or you can create an Instacar account with your email address—so checking MTPL is possible without Ügyfélkapu (the Hungarian government Client Gateway) as well.
About MTPL (KGFB)
Every vehicle participating in road traffic must have compulsory insurance. This contract is called compulsory motor third‑party liability insurance (KGFB / MTPL).
MTPL ensures that in the event of damage, the insurer compensates the innocent party. The at‑fault party then “pays” through a deterioration in their bonus–malus class.
If you don’t have MTPL and you cause an accident, you pay the damages yourself. In addition, under the law you may also face further financial penalties because of the lack of insurance.
With the Instacar MTPL (KGFB) calculator you can compare MTPL products from 13 insurers.
If you find a favorable offer, you can cancel your previous contract using the MTPL cancellation template.
