The vehicle owner typically cancels their MTPL (KGFB) because they want to switch insurers, sell the car, or temporarily deregister the vehicle.
MTPL cancellation template
MTPL cancellation is done in writing. You can use the template below, which helps ensure the cancellation is correct in both form and content.

In the cancellation letter you must include the vehicle’s license plate number, the insurance policy number, and the owner’s details.
The document is downloadable, printable, and can be filled out by hand or on a computer.
Cancelling MTPL before the policy anniversary
The deadline is a critical factor and must be followed precisely. The cancellation must arrive at the insurer no earlier than 60 days and no later than 30 days before the annual policy anniversary.
If you miss the deadline, you can request cancellation by mutual agreement. In this case, the insurer may accept or reject the request.
Without a valid cancellation, the insurance automatically renews for the next period.
Cancelling MTPL when selling a vehicle
In the case of a vehicle sale/purchase, the buyer must take out a new MTPL policy; without it they cannot legally participate in road traffic. The seller’s policy, meanwhile, terminates.
In the Instacar MTPL (KGFB) calculator you can compare MTPL products from 13 insurers by providing a few details (e.g., date of birth, postcode, bonus–malus class) to easily find the right compulsory insurance for your new car.
